The College Fix: Worcester State grants ‘privileges’ to conservative club, it says, after student government denies recognition

Earlier this year, Worcester State University refused to overturn its student government’s denial of recognition to a Turning Point USA chapter, which all evidence suggests was on the basis of the club’s viewpoint. Outside pressure on the public university, from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education and TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk among others, apparently led the taxpayer-funded institution to relax its non-intervention stance. Jerusalem Post: Thousands call for congressmen to withdraw support for ‘antisemitic’ CAIR

More than 9,000 Americans have signed a petition calling on members of Congress to withdraw statements of support issued to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization which the petition’s signatories say is antisemitic. More than 120 members of Congress, including Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chairs Pramila Jayapal and Mark Poucan, and presidential hopefuls, senators Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar, wrote letters to CAIR last year ahead of the organization’s 25th anniversary, praising its work. The letters were printed in full in the program for a gala held to mark the occasion; three were from Republican representatives. But thousands of Americans have called on the congressmen to renounce their letters, arguing that CAIR is an antisemitic organization and therefore cannot be supported by anyone who claims to oppose racism. PJ Media: New Non-Partisan Group Calls on Amazon to Drop Scandal-Plagued SPLC

Big tech and the media routinely cover for the scandal-plagued far-left smear factory the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), but a new non-partisan initiative has launched a campaign urging Amazon to drop its reliance on the corrupt liberal group. Since its creation two months ago, the New Tolerance Campaign (NTC) has inspired more than 2,000 Americans to demand that universities and influential companies like Amazon hold themselves to “consistent standards of tolerance.” NTC “promotes ‘unbiased tolerance’ by encouraging organizations, businesses, elected officials, and government agencies to maintain clear standards of acceptable conduct.” In that spirit, NTC has rallied Americans against Amazon’s decision to rely on the SPLC’s biased “hate group” accusations to exclude organizations from its AmazonSmile charity program. NTC reminded its followers that the SPLC faced a devastating scandal back in March involving claims of racial discrimination and sexual harassment. That scandal led to the firing of the SPLC’s co-founder, and it broke open even further as employees came clean about being “part of the con,” exaggerating hate by padding the “hate group” list and “bilking northern liberals” into cutting big checks. The SPLC has millions in offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands. “New Tolerance Campaign is dedicated to calling out the unequal application of tolerance in mainstream American culture, which has become far too common in recent years. AmazonSmile’s use of the SPLC is a clear case of this ongoing problem,” an NTC spokesperson told PJ Media on Wednesday. Read more from PJ Media

FEC Complaint: Bernie Breaking Federal Law by Employing Foreign National

The Bernie Sanders presidential campaign is violating federal election law by employing foreign nationals in advisory campaign positions, according to a newly filed complaint to the Federal Election Commission obtained exclusively by the Free Beacon. The complaint points to the employment of three individuals, including Maria Belén Sisa, an illegal immigrant from Argentina who is in the United States under the protections of DACA and has been named deputy national press secretary for Bernie 2020. Sisa, who collected a salary from the Bernie 2016 campaign and also made financial contributions to it, recently made headlines when she questioned whether American Jews, including her own boss Sanders, were loyal to the United States. Both the work for the campaign and contributions are “direct and serious violations” of federal election law, the complaint argues. Foreign nationals are prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in the decision-making process of any person with regard to election-related activities, according to the FEC. Included in this group of foreign nationals are all immigrants not lawfully admitted as permanent residents. The complaint, filed on Thursday afternoon by the Coolidge Reagan Foundation, argues that Sisa’s current position on the campaign, due to its strategic nature, is a clear violation of this prohibition. “Senator Sanders and Bernie 2020 is permitting a foreign national, Ms. Sisa, to serve in an advisory position which allows her to directly or indirectly participate in the decision-making process of persons with regard to election-related activities in violation of FEC regulations,” it argues. The complaint also points to the 2016 campaign, which employed Sisa as well as two other foreign nationals, Erika Andiola and Cesar Vargas, in advisory campaign positions, it says. Like Sisa, both Vargas, the campaign’s national Latino outreach strategist, and Andiola, its press secretary for Latino outreach, were salaried employees of Bernie 2016. They were also both well-known immigration activists open about their status as Mexican immigrants and DACA recipients. “Due to the high profile of Cesar Vargas, Erika Andiola, and Maria Belén Sisa as leading activists in the undocumented community, there is reason to believe that respondents are ‘foreign nationals’ within the meaning of 52 U.S.C. § 301219b)(2), and in violation of 11 C.F.R. § 110.20 (i) and A.O. 2004-26, directly or indirectly participated in the decision-making process of persons with regard to the election-related activities of Bernie 2016,” the complaint says. “There is reason to believe, having previously employed Ms. Sisa, that Bernie 2020 is currently, and knowingly, permitting a ‘foreign national’ … to directly or indirectly participate in the decision-making process of persons with regard to the election-related activities of Bernie 2020.” The complaint calls for an “immediate investigation” of both campaigns and for action to be taken to halt the violations. “The Commission should determine and impose appropriate sanctions for any and all violations,” it says. “Further, the Commission should enjoin respondents from any future violations and impose any necessary and appropriate remedies to ensure respondents’ future compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act.” Shaun McCutcheon, who filed the complaint for the Coolidge Reagan Foundation, said he expects any foreign nationals employed by the campaign to lose their job if the FEC finds it was in violation of the law. “The involvement of foreigners, especially with all that went on during the 2016 election, can’t be allowed in our elections,” McCutcheon said. The Sanders campaign paid a $14,500 fine to the FEC last year after it was caught accepting foreign contributions from the Australian Labor Party during the 2016 Democratic primary. Former president Barack Obama’s actions on DACA did not give recipients a path to obtaining permanent residence in the United States. The Sanders campaign did not respond to request for comment on Sisa’s immigration status. Click here to read the full news story.

Ocasio-Cortez hit with new ethics complaint over boyfriend’s email account

EXCLUSIVE — A conservative group that filed a complaint with the FEC alleging Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign may have illegally funneled thousands of dollars through an allied PAC to boyfriend Riley Roberts on Thursday lodged a fresh complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics. The new filing also concerns the famous congresswoman’s boyfriend, but focuses on his use of a congressional email account. The Coolidge Reagan Foundation, a political nonprofit, alleges in the complaint that the New York Democratic lawmaker used her newly found congressional privileges in an unethical manner when she set up the House email address for Roberts. “This Complaint alleges Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez improperly converted U.S. House resources to her non-official, personal use by obtaining an official ‘@mail.house.gov’ e-mail address for her boyfriend, despite the fact he was not employed by her congressional office,” reads a line from the complaint obtained by Fox News. “Moreover, it appears she obtained the e-mail address for him by falsely designating him a ‘staff’ member.” Attorneys for the foundation allege that Ocasio-Cortez violated restrictions on personal use of House services and equipment—as outlined in the House Ethics Manual. They maintain that the provision of an official House-based email address for Roberts is a violation of rules that prevent outside individuals from having an official account. “To my surprise, no one else had acted on this information,” foundation attorney Dan Backer told Fox News, “and while media coverage of misconduct is good, [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] has to be held accountable.” “On this matter, only OCE [Office of Congressional Ethics] has the investigative authority to do so.” Officials for Ocasio-Cortez’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment, but the congresswoman made public statements last month when news of Roberts’ email account surfaced saying the account was given so he could have access to her calendar. “Congressional spouses get Gcal access all the time. Next time check your facts before you tweet nonsense,” she tweeted. Asked about the arrangement last month, David O’Boyle, the spokesperson for the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, told Fox News: “From time to time, at the request of members, spouses and partners are provided House email accounts for the purposes of viewing the member’s calendar.” But Jason Chaffetz, former GOP chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said Ocasio-Cortez’ claims don’t stack up.
